My fireside chat with Cox Communications President Pat Esser about the future of TV

Published by:

It’s not everyday you get to sit down and chat with the president of one of the largest cable companies in the world. Luckily, this year’s CES afforded me that very opportunity with Pat Esser, President of Cox Communications. We talked about:

  • The latest innovations on television on both the primary and secondary screens;
  • Their partnership with Cisco and the new technology they’re releasing shortly; and
  • A new second screen experience with the launch of an iOS app unlike anything else in the market.
Enjoy this sneak peek and personal interview with Pat.

One of my favorite parts about #2013CES? Learning about #personalTV and chatting it up with #Panasonic

As part of my official Cox Communications’ CES Social Correspondent duties I had the opportunity to jump on stage at Panasonic’s Live@CES stage. Hosted by the uber smart and talented Cali Lewis (@calilewis) and joined by panel guest Amber Osborne (@missdestructo), we talked CES, women in tech and our favorite innovations. My favorite part about CES was learning more about the future of television from Cox and Cisco and just how personal it’s becoming. Here’s a clip from the interview where I share my thoughts on the personalization, synchronization and socialization of TV:

Here’s what people were looking forward to just prior to the opening of #2013CES

For the past few days I’ve had the privilege of serving as entertainment services provider Cox Communications social correspondent at the 2013 CES. TV is everywhere at CES.  And it’s right on par. Nielsen says that Americans are actually watching more TV than ever – about 34 hours per week, in fact. Whoa! Later this week I’ll share more insights about the personal TV experience, but for now, here what people were most looking forward to at CES:

The International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) sets the stage for “what’s next” in the consumer electronics world. And, I’m going to be on the ground floor. Think of me as your personal CES attendant.

I get to take attending CES up a notch. This year I’m privileged to partner with, third-largest cable entertainment and broadband services provider in the country, Cox Communications as their Social Correspondent and Ambassador. I’ll be like your personal CES attendant, sharing the best finds from the exhibit hall via daily video recaps, Twitter, Facebook and my #CES Pinterest Board. It’s my job over the course of the show to share all my “fave” finds. From innovations like flexible screens to the craziest smartphone cases, I’m in for the long haul.

Do you know of a booth I simply MUST stop by? Leave a comment here or text me at 224.789.8314 with the details. My camera crew and I are narrowing down our plan of attack.

I also have it on good authority that Cox Communications plans to announce their latest innovations in consumer video during the show. And, as part of my  ”official ambassador duties,” I’ll sit down with Cox Communications president Pat Esser, to get the scoop for you. (I’ll share interview details via an update to this post.)

One more thing…

You’re invited to virtually get in the #CES mix via a live Twitter chat with Cox and Cisco executives on Tuesday, January 8, from 3:00 PM to 3:30 PM PST. I will be your friendly moderator and we’ll discuss #2013CES trends in social television and consumer electronics. Use hashtag #CoxTV and follow @PRsarahevans and @Cox_PR.

TIP: Create tasks that launch when a news piece runs about you/your company.

After the hard work of getting a media placement is done, it actually isn't. Add tasks like: thanking the writer on their site and via email, adding large placements to your email signature line and website, etc...

    2. TIP: Don't limit yourself to email for a pitch.

TIP: Don't limit yourself to email for a pitch.

Journalists, bloggers and online influencers spend their time outside the "inbox," so you should, too. If they're active online, consider a tweet, private message via Facebook or even a Pinterest pitch.

TIP: Remember it's "relationships before tasks."

Part of the power of collaboration is that it forces you to interact with others. When more people are added to the mix, the more essential it is to have a strong relationship. Focus on relationship tasks throughout the collaboration process.

We live in the age of Pinterest, Fancy, Instagram and the like... As my friend Jason Kinzler says, "If your idea of PR is sitting in front of a desk and opening a Word doc, you're seriously out of luck." What images can best help tell your story?

It's tough to eliminate the word busy from your lexicon, but you might want to consider it. Productive people are the ones getting things done (#gtd) and the "busy" often don't remember how they spent their time.
