FAVE LOL: Newt Gingrich supporters show off their pets online, “Pets with Newt 2012″

Published by:

Every politician gets the obligatory photo with a baby, but it takes a special politician to get one with a lemur.

Next up on Newt Gingrich’s social agenda — getting America’s felines, canines and the like on his campaign tail, uh, trail. Don’t believe me. See for yourself. Pets with Newt 2012 celebrates Gingrich supporters and, what else, their pets. Apparently he really likes animals and zoos in particular:

Newt has liked animals and zoos since he was a little boy. His relatives used to take him to the Hershey Zoo, the Philadelphia Zoo and the National Zoo in Washington, D.C.  When he was ten he went to the Harrisburg City Council and made an appeal for a zoo for Pennsylvania’s capital city.  As a teenager, Newt wanted to be either a zoo director or a vertebrate paleontologist.  As a young college professor, he coordinated the Interdisciplinary Program on Environmental Studies at West Georgia College. Newt and Callista visit zoos and museums everywhere they go.  Newt has visited nearly 100 zoos around the world. Callista is catching up.

FAVE TOOL: @Mailchimp’s merge tags cheat sheets make life easier

Published by:

Did you have a “friend” in junior high who wrote down all of the test answers on a one inch by one inch piece of paper? This “friend” could somehow manage to fit 85 answers on that teeny, tiny piece of paper. Your “friend’s” plan was to eat the piece of paper if the teacher suspected something. You hated that friend (unless it was you). Now, as an adult, there are cheat sheets that won’t land you in detention. Hurray!

I use Mailchimp for my daily e-blast, Commentz. I’m constantly looking for ways to spruce it up with great content or personalization. However, my mental capacity is about zero after waking up every two hours with Baby K. So, they created these handy dandy cheat sheets for all of their merge tags to help.

If you’re a Mailchimp user (that sounds really weird), bookmark this page.

Here are the links to all of the cheat sheet resources:

FAVE REDDIT: January 18 official blackout day in opposition to SOPA

Published by:

It’s official. Social web popularity giant reddit announces they will officially go dark in opposition of SOPA/PIPA on January 18,  from 8am–8pm EST (1300–0100 UTC). That means you’ll have to look elsewhere for the next Internet meme. Instead, if you visit the site you’ll find  the live video stream of the House hearing where Internet entrepreneurs and technical experts (including reddit co-founder Alexis “kn0thing” Ohanian) will be testifying. They will also showcase community initiatives like meetups to visit Congressional offices, campaigns to contact companies supporting PIPA/SOPA, and the like.

Go on with your bad selves, reddit!

Someday, (hopefully a few months from now) people will say,

In the Year of our Lord 2012, patriots of Reddit – meming and in large numbers – charged the fields of Washington. They fought like Internet poets; they fought like Redditsmen (and women), and won their freedom.

They may take our web, but they’ll never take…OUR FREEDOM. Alright. Enough with the Braveheart quotes.

p.s. If you’re planning any sort of social campaign that day, you might want to reconsider the date.

FAVE PEOPLE @barackobama now on Instagram

Published by:

Guess who joined the IG club? If you guessed President Barack Obama’s campaign team you’d be right.

Darn. And I was hoping for some #fromwhereistand Oval Office pics.

You can find him as @barackobama on Instagram. I’d include a link to make it easier for you, but that’s not an option with IG at the moment.

If you want to share a photo from the campaign trail with the campaign staff, use the #Obama2012 hashtag.

FAVE CONTEST: Compete in MLB’s,The Fan Cave

Published by:

“We will force you to hang with celebrities, MLB stars and watch EVERY SINGLE MLB game…oh and we’ll give you housing and pay you a stipend” would be a better title for this contest. Geez. Who would want all that? Uhhh…I would and I’m pretty sure, no I’m positive, my husband would. So I thought you might be interested, too.

“If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball.” – Dodgeball

If you can write 1,000 words of really good stuff, you can enter this contest. Yep, you have to put some effort into it. The online essay is divided into two parts, each requires 500 words. A word of advice, have someone proof read your submission before you send it in. Oh, and write it in Word or another place where you can auto save in case your computer crashes. FYI: Submissions must be received by Friday, January 13, 2012 by 11:59PM ET.

You also need to share additional blog writing samples and a link to your Twitter feed (so get tweeting if you’re not already).

It’s also encouraged to tweet @MLBFanCave (and use hashtag #MLBFC) to show your spirit. If you really want this, and I mean REALLY want this, I’d consider launching an attention-getting social campaign (if you want actual ideas, you know I’m for hire).

Last, they need a current photo of you. Please don’t send this one. Or this. Make sure you send something that reflects your undying devotion to baseball.

Now, if one of you wins, I expect to hear about it (and I’ll send a list of autographs I’d like).
