FAVE SOCIAL: A ‘grand experiment’ lets you tweet one piece of advice you wish you knew then

Published by:

If I only knew this a few years ago.” What if you could share that advice with the world? Now, anyone in the world can add a “what I wish I knew then” tweet to public Twitter account, @AYoungerMe.

The founders of Buffer are at it again, this time with an experiment to crowdsource advice. Not just any advice, the kind of advice you wish your “younger self” would have known.

How? It only takes one email. Send an email to ayoungerme@to.bufferapp.com and  anything in the subject line and is under 140 characters will be your Tweet.

ayoungerme@to.bufferapp.com

In case you’re more of a visual person, it looks something like this:

After you click send, your email gets added to a queue in a Buffer account for this experiment. Every hour a new tweet from the queue is posted to Twitter. Pretty cool, as long as no knuckleheads try to hijack it and ruin it for the rest of us.

Remember the, “Milk, it does a body good,” ad campaigns of the early 90′s? It showed young, scrawny, often “nerd-like” adolescents watching themselves turn into athletic, popular and beautiful adults (all from drinking milk).  The @AYoungerMe experiment makes up for having to watch those (if you’re a child of the 90′s like I am).

What was your advice?

FAVE TOOL: When is the best time to tweet? Tweriod & Buffer team up to help you easily find out

Published by:

Buffer and Tweriod have officially teamed up to make it simple to both find the best times to tweet and get said tweets sent.

Tweriod analyses your Twitter followers, past Tweets and the people you follow and gives you the best times to Tweet. Buffer lets you easily share Tweets, Facebook posts and LinkedIn updates at set times. They’re like peanut butter and jelly! No wonder these two made a partnership official.

Now it only takes users one click to “add to Buffer” and share direct from Tweriod.

Users will now see their existing Buffer schedule on the left and then your new Tweriod times on the right. By clicking “send to Buffer” your times will be updated with the new, optimized Tweriod times.

Why Tweriod? Buffer founder Leo Widrich says, “They have designed one of the most transparent and effective algorithms to come up with your optimal timings.”

How easy is it to get your best Tweeting times in Tweriod? It’s a one-click setup. All you have to do is click “sign-in” with Twitter and you are done. The app will automatically generate a report for you and show you the best times to tweet.

Happy tweeting.

FAVE STARTUP: @Bufferapp acquires Digg Digg, now with @Pinterest sharing

Published by:

I love it it when great products just keep getting better. Today the Buffer team announced they acquired Digg Digg, the groovy floating sharing plug in.

What can you do with Digg Digg by Buffer?

  • Add a beautiful floating bar to your blog posts, just like Sarah’s Faves has
  • Display sharing buttons easily before or after your articles
  • Add the newest buttons such as Pinterest and Buffer buttons to your site

Did you know great design and easily accessible share buttons make a huge difference?

Get 7 times more Social Traffic through better sharing buttons. According to BrightEdge research more visible sharing buttons will increase the number of shares your posts get versus those without. So I guess if you don’t want people to share your great content, don’t use Digg Digg.

You can check out all of the other bells and whistles in Buffer’s latest blog post.

If you already use Digg Digg, then you’ll be stoked to find out you can now integrate Pinterest. Here’s a quick tutorial –

1.) Install Digg Digg and enable the Pin It Button

As the first step to allow your readers to also pick images, just install the wordpress sharing plugin Digg Digg. You can see it in action on the lefthand side here.

Now, head to your “floating bar settings” area and find the Pinterest button. Click enable and set the weighting so it comes up where you want it to show:

2.) Allow your readers to pick pictures

Now, of course, since Pinterest is all about pictures and great visualisations, there is no point in having the button if you readers can’t also post a picture with it.

It is very easy to get a picture to come up for your readers though. All you have to do is upload a picture and set it as “featured image” inside your WordPress dashboard. Once your picture is uploaded, right next to “insert into post” there should be a “use as featured image”.

Go get ‘em!

FAVE APP: @Bufferapp adds Linkedin to its autopost features

Published by:

If you haven’t heard about Buffer yet, it’s a better way to update twitter, Facebook and, now, Linkedin.

The service allows you to share any page you’re reading and “automagically” shares posts for you through the day. Why does that matter? Social media scientist Dan Zarrella has shown that posts spread out through the dayactually generate more traffic (on twitter).

I’ve used the service for several weeks and it has actually changed the way I post online. I think I’ve tried every third-party platform for social posting available (minus those only available for Blackberry or Android devices) and none fully met my needs. Buffer allows me to schedule posts by time, allow different schedules for each social network and tracks the reach of each post. It also comes complete with a number of ways to post, including: iOS app, iOS bookmarklet, Chrome extenstion, Android app, browser, etc… It’s almost impossible to NOT be able to post with Buffer.

If you’re already using Buffer then you’ll be excited to find out that their most requested new feature officially launches today–integration with Linkedin.

I’ve tested the Linkedin function for a few days and I like it SO much better than autoposting my tweets, manually updating my status or through the countless other third party platforms. It saves a lot of time and I don’t have to post the same content at the same time for each social network. Therefore, people connected with me on each won’t get blasted with the same information at the same time.

I, for one, am geeked out about the new addition to the Buffer family.

Thinking about testing it out? Don’t worry, it’s a freemium model. If you’re only posting for yourself as opposed to posting for clients it should meet your needs.

Buffer co-founder Leonhard Widrich (@LeoWid) says,

“Buffer represents a completely new way to share content on Social Media. It just puts order into my habits.”
